About
Why this gym exists
Nadia Osei spent eleven years watching commercial gyms take money from people who were never going to succeed there, and then opened this one.
The problem we opened to solve
Commercial gyms are extremely good at selling memberships and extremely bad at coaching people. The business model does not require anybody to get stronger; it requires them to keep paying. The ideal customer, financially, is one who joins in January and never comes back.
The people that model fails hardest are the ones with the most to gain: beginners, people returning from injury or illness, and people over fifty. They get handed a generic induction, put on machines that fit nobody, and quietly written off when they stop attending.
What we did differently
Every session on our floor has a coach in it, group sizes are capped at six, and everybody trains from a written programme that a human being reviews. That is expensive to run, which is why we have three tiers instead of a £15 one, and it is the entire reason people get stronger here.
We took the name from what most of our members describe: something got burned down — a body, a career, a decade — and the work is rebuilding into something that holds up better than what was there before. It is not a metaphor about aggression. It is a metaphor about what comes after.
What we will not do
We will not tell you how your body will look. We will not sell you supplements, and no coach here earns commission on anything. We will not make health claims we cannot support, and we will not take your money if we think you need a clinician more than you need a barbell.
We will also tell you when we are the wrong fit. If you want a bodybuilding coach, a marathon plan or a class with a playlist, there are good places in Bristol for all three and we will name them.
Who runs it
03 coachesThree full-time coaches and one very part-time dog.

Nadia Osei
Head coach · Founder
Nadia opened Ash to Armor in 2019 after eleven years coaching in commercial gyms and getting steadily more frustrated with what happened to people who did not already look like they belonged there.
BSc Sport & Exercise Science. UKSCA accredited. She writes the Strength and Rebuild programmes and takes most of the intro sessions herself.

Tomás Bergin
Strength coach
Tomás has been competing in and coaching powerlifting for the better part of two decades, and is the person to talk to if your deadlift has stopped moving.
Level 4 Strength & Conditioning. He runs the Saturday sessions and coaches most of the members who compete.

Priya Raman
Conditioning & Hybrid coach
Priya came to coaching from rowing and brought the aerobic training culture with her, which is why our conditioning programme looks nothing like a bootcamp.
Level 3 Personal Trainer, Level 4 Exercise Referral, British Rowing coaching qualification. She leads Hybrid 55+ and all conditioning classes.
What we stand behind
- Coaching-led: a qualified coach on the floor for every coached session
- Evidence-informed programming, reviewed and changed when it is not working
- Honest scope — we say when something is a clinician's job, not ours
- No body-composition targets, no weigh-ins, no before-and-after photographs
- Transparent pricing with no joining fees or expiring offers
- Beginners get the most experienced coaching, not the least
Come and see whether we are telling the truth.
Everything on this page is easy to check in forty-five minutes on the gym floor. Book the intro and check it.
